GeographyIslands are small enough to be overlooked and specific enough to have an exact answer. Sicily belongs to Italy, Hokkaido to Japan, Tasmania to Australia, and once those are known the rest follow a pattern: big nearby countries hold the islands in their own seas.
The questions work because every pairing here is unambiguous. That is deliberate. Islands with a divided or disputed status are left out, because a quiz question with two defensible answers teaches the wrong lesson.
You are shown an island and four possible countries. Tap the one it belongs to. A wrong pick shows the answer immediately.
Easy uses the seven islands most people could place on a map. Medium widens the pool. Hard uses the full list, including the smaller Baltic and North Sea islands.
Italy: Sicily and Sardinia, both in the Mediterranean, separated from the mainland by the Strait of Messina.
France and Spain: Corsica belongs to France, the island to the west of Italy and south of Genoa. Majorca and the smaller Balearics belong to Spain.
Greece: Crete, the large island at the southern end of the Aegean.
Japan: Hokkaido in the north, Kyushu in the south, with Honshu and Shikoku between them.
Nordic waters: Greenland and Bornholm belong to Denmark, Gotland to Sweden, Saaremaa and Hiiumaa to Estonia, the Aland Islands to Finland.
North America: Baffin Island, Newfoundland and Vancouver Island all belong to Canada.
Southeast Asia: Java and Sumatra to Indonesia, Luzon to the Philippines.
Ask which sea the island sits in, and who borders that sea. Islands in the Mediterranean lean European, islands in the Baltic lean Nordic, islands in the Caribbean and the North Atlantic lean North American.
Cyprus, Iceland and the Falklands are all complicated for different reasons, and Borneo and New Guinea are shared by more than one country. None of them appear here. A quiz works best when exactly one answer is right.
