How to play

Tap a card to flip it, then tap another. If the two cards are a word and its opposite, they stay face up. Match all pairs before the timer runs out. Each correct pair scores points; consecutive matches build a streak multiplier, and finishing early adds a time bonus.

Strategies that raise your score

  • Say the pair aloud. Reading "hot — cold" while flipping anchors the contrast in your memory.
  • Start with the easier word. Track the everyday words first; once you know where an opposite sits, you only need to find its partner.
  • Use the miss as data. A wrong flip still shows you both cards — remember them for later.
  • Build in zones. Divide the grid into quarters and focus on one area at a time instead of scanning everything.
  • Think in scales. Opposites often live on the same scale — big/small, fast/slow, hot/cold. If you reveal "hot", look for other temperature words nearby.
  • Track the timer. If the clock is low, stop memorising new cards and clear the pairs you already know first.

Common mistakes

Flipping randomly. Every flip should teach you something: the card you just saw, and where it sits.
Confusing opposites with synonyms. "Up" pairs with "down", not with "above" in this game — read the exact word before committing.

This game trains working memory and contrastive vocabulary, useful for language learning, writing and everyday quick thinking.

Why antonym matching helps

Opposites are among the most memorable word pairs because they create a strong contrast in meaning. Matching them under time pressure trains your brain to access both ends of a concept quickly — a useful skill for writing, debating and fast reading.
