What you are actually practicing

An analogy question asks you to identify a relationship and then apply the same relationship somewhere else. hand : glove works because a glove is worn on a hand, so for foot : ? you need the thing worn on a foot — a sock.

The skill is not vocabulary. It is naming the relationship precisely enough that only one option fits, and that same skill carries over to reading comprehension and to learning new concepts by comparison.

How the game works

You are shown a completed pair and the first half of a second pair. Pick the word that completes it. A wrong pick reveals the answer immediately.

Easy uses physical, everyday relationships. Medium adds function and category relationships. Hard includes opposites and part-to-whole pairs, where several options can look plausible at a glance.

The relationships worth knowing

Worn on / used on: hand : glove, foot : sock, head : hat.

Home of: bird : nest, bee : hive.

Worker and workplace: doctor : hospital, teacher : school.

Part to whole: wheel : car, wing : plane, petal : flower.

Opposites: hot : cold, begin : end, early : late.

Young to adult: puppy : dog, kitten : cat.

Strategies that actually raise your score

Say the relationship as a sentence first. "A glove is worn on a hand." Then test the candidate in the same sentence: "A sock is worn on a foot." If the sentence sounds wrong, the option is wrong.

Check the direction. hand : glove runs from body part to the thing worn. An option that reverses the direction — the part rather than the garment — is a trap even when the words are related.

Prefer the tightest relationship. Several options may be loosely connected to feet; only one is worn on a foot. Specific beats plausible.

Eliminate by category before meaning. If the first pair joins two objects, an option naming an action or a person is already out.
