Number Patterns

A timed game that trains pattern recognition — the core skill behind algebra. Below: how to classify a sequence in one look.

Choose your difficulty

Pick a level to start playing. You can switch at any time.

How to play

Read the sequence, work out the rule, then tap the next number before the timer runs out.

How to play

Read the sequence, work out the hidden rule, then tap the next number before the timer runs out. Higher levels mix arithmetic, geometric, square, and Fibonacci patterns.

Strategies that raise your score

  • Check the gap. If the difference between terms is constant, it is an arithmetic sequence — just add it on.
  • Check the ratio. If each term is multiplied by the same number, it is geometric.
  • Spot squares. 1, 4, 9, 16… means add the next odd number, or just square the position.
  • Fibonacci: each term is the sum of the two before it (1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8…).
  • Write the gaps down. Seeing 2, 2, 2 or ×2, ×2, ×2 confirms the rule fast.

Common mistakes

Assuming every sequence is arithmetic. Always test the ratio before committing to a difference.

Pattern recognition is the backbone of algebra and coding, so this game trains a transferable skill.
