MathMoney is the one place where two-decimal arithmetic is used every single day, and it is also where careless slips cost real money. A price of 7.35 and a note of 10.00 look simple, yet subtracting them trips people up because there are three separate borrows hiding inside.
This game drills the two jobs that matter: working out change from a round amount, and adding prices to get a total.
You are shown an amount calculation and four answers. Pick the correct one before the countdown ends; a wrong pick reveals the right value immediately. Best scores stay in this browser.
Easy takes change from 10.00. Medium adds two prices. Hard takes change from 50.00, where the numbers are bigger and the borrows are easier to lose track of.
Change by complement: from 10.00, pay 7.35 and you get 2.65 — because 7.35 + 2.65 = 10.00.
Adding prices: 3.25 + 1.80 = 5.05. The carry happens in the cents column first.
Count up instead of subtracting. From 7.35 to 8.00 is 0.65, then to 10.00 is 2.00. Total 2.65. Counting up needs no borrowing at all, which is why cashiers do it that way.
Round the price, then correct. 9.98 from 10.00 is 0.02 — subtract from a clean number and adjust, rather than borrowing across four columns.
Line up the decimal point. Under a countdown the usual failure is adding tenths to hundredths. Reading each value as cents (325 + 180) removes that risk entirely: 505 cents is 5.05.
Sanity-check the magnitude. Change from 10.00 can never exceed 10.00, and a total of two prices under 10.00 can never reach 20.00. Out-of-range options are wrong before you calculate.
